Fire Pits & Fireplaces

A fire feature is the reason a backyard gets used from October through April. We build them in block and stone, size the seating around them, and finish them so they read as part of the deck rather than an add-on.

What’s included

Every job is scoped in writing before it starts, so you know what is covered and what is not.

  • Gas and wood-burning fire pits
  • Outdoor fireplaces and chimneys
  • Seat walls and benches sized to the fire
  • Finishes matched to the surrounding hardscape

How We Build It

Fire Pits & Fireplaces in Tucson

Create a place to gather

A fire pit can anchor an open seating area, while a fireplace can define one edge of an outdoor room. Think about views, circulation and the size of the seating group before choosing a feature.

AYJ builds masonry fire features with finishes that complement surrounding pavers, travertine, walls and outdoor kitchens.

Compare gas and wood options

Gas and wood features have different utility, maintenance and operating requirements. Gas needs an appropriate fuel supply and approved equipment. Wood requires fuel storage, ash cleanup and attention to smoke.

Placement and use must account for applicable restrictions, clearances and the selected equipment. Confirm project requirements before construction rather than assuming every option suits every yard.

Plan seating and finishes together

Built-in benches and seat walls can connect a fire feature to the surrounding deck. Leave room for circulation and use the equipment's required clearances when planning the layout.

A fireplace also has structural and venting considerations. Its base, height and location need to be part of the scope, alongside the visible stucco or stone finish.

Should I choose a fire pit or fireplace?

A fire pit suits seating around a central feature. A fireplace can work as a focal point along a wall or edge of a yard. Available space, clearances and how you entertain will help determine the choice.

Can a fire feature match my existing deck?

We can discuss complementary materials and colors. Photos of the surrounding deck and walls are useful before the estimate.

Can you add a fire feature to a finished yard?

Ask us to review access, the existing surface and any fuel-line requirements. Adding utilities may involve opening and restoring parts of the hardscape.

Does the estimate include seating?

Tell us whether you want built-in seat walls or space for movable furniture. We can include the selected option in the written scope.

How It Works

Four steps, no surprises.

  1. Walk the Property

We come out and look at the actual space. Goals, timing, materials, access, drainage, and a realistic budget range.

  2. Build the Scope

Layout, measurements and material options confirmed in writing, so you know exactly what is included before anything starts.

  3. Complete the Work

Prep, base, installation and finish work, with updates as we go and the site staged and cleaned at the end of each phase.

  4. Final Walkthrough

We walk the finished job with you, handle anything left on the list, and show you how to care for the materials.
